Good design makes for better experiences. That’s the core of Doreen’s approach to her work.
After graduating from James Madison University in 1991, Doreen started her career in journalism and graphic design by living in Germany, exploring Europe and working for The European Stars and Stripes. It was an eye-opening experience to have in her early 20s. After a couple years, she returned to the States, but soon decided she was ready to solve complex challenges that made a difference in people’s lives. This resulted in a return to school to earn her Masters of Architecture degree.
After graduating from NC State in 2002, she spent a several years in private practice before joining the City of Durham to manage design and construction of public projects. During her 10-year tenure with the City, Doreen managed some unique projects that were key factors in the development and growth of Durham: the Durham Station Transportation Center, interior and exterior renovations of Durham City Hall, and the Durham Performing Arts Center (DPAC).
In 2015, she decided to take her experiences and apply them to her own work. In this vein, she created Felici Labs PLLC. Felici Labs is unique in that a portion of the work is to help non-traditional developers and owners expand and a portion is to help homeowners create the space they’ve always dreamed about living in. The two broad work areas feed the aspects of Doreen’s desire to work on both large-scale and small-scale projects – using her strong project management, creative ability, and the ability to think big picture and small details simultaneously – to create better spaces no matter the size.
