The owners of this 1980s transitional modern home had a desire to renovate the garage to better serve the family’s needs: a mudroom, guest bedroom, and family room. The lower level half bath also needed to have a shower added to serve the guest room. Key elements in the garage renovation was the addition of windows for light and view into beautiful gardens. In addition, the design also included a new more spacious and light-filled entry. Previously, guests and family went up exterior steps to the front door to go down two small steps once inside. This made for an awkward and tight place to enter and say good bye to guests. The renovation eliminated the interior steps, thereby eliminating two of the outside steps, and pushed the exterior foyer wall just 4 feet out to provide a gracious entry that felt connected to the interior of the house.
