MOUNTAIN HOUSE ADDITION

Accessible home addition to a mountain cabin, including a new master bedroom and bath

This couple desired an addition to their mountain cabin that was accessible. With one partner in a wheelchair, the ability to navigate and enjoy the space by both with equal ease was critical. The prioritized scope included accessibility in the new master bedroom, master bathroom and study. Due to the addition and the inclusion of exterior stairs to interior access, the project also included two new bedrooms in the lower level and a renovated bedroom, living room and kitchen upstairs.

Flow around the space was important and small design interventions, such as relocating the entry door to a more central area and constructing low-rise steps on the new interior stair, contributed to making the space easier to navigate. And, of course, light played a major part in the design. Previously the cabin was dark but now every space takes advantage of great views and great light.
