The owners of this 1980s transitional modern home had a desire to renovate the garage to better serve the family’s needs: redesigning the space with a mudroom, guest bedroom and family room. The lower level half bath also required an addition of a shower to serve the guest room. Key elements in the garage renovation are the addition of windows for light and view into beautiful gardens in particular for the new family room. 

In addition, the design includes a new more spacious and light-filled entry. Previously, steps ascended to the front door with two descending steps once inside. This made for an awkward and tight place to enter and say good-bye to guests. The renovation eliminates the interior steps, thereby eliminating two of the outside steps. In addition, the exterior foyer wall is moved outward 4 feet to provide a gracious entry that feels connected to the interior of the house.
